Jazz in the Heights returns as a weekend-long outdoor festival at Sycamore & Oak. This expanded format will feature:
Live Music All Weekend: Showcasing top-tier regional and emerging jazz and jazz fusion artists
Curated Food & Wine Tastings complementing the festival atmosphere
Art Exhibits showcasing pieces from some of the city’s most talented and influential artists
Support for Local Economic 20+ Local Black-Owned Businesses through vendor opportunities
Vibrant Community Engagement with interactive experiences
Featuring:
Chelsey Green and The Green Project – Renowned classically trained violinist and vocalist known for fusing jazz, funk, R&B, and soul with string performance; featured on NPR, BET, and international stages.
BIRCKHEAD – Baltimore-based saxophonist and bandleader, named one of NPR’s “Top 10 Jazz Artists to Watch,” blending progressive jazz with hip-hop, soul, and experimental sound.
Deborah Bond - A powerhouse vocalist and songwriter whose genre-defying sound blends soul, jazz, and funk with bold authenticity. A DC favorite and international performer, she captivates audiences with her dynamic stage presence and emotionally rich performances.
Dezron Douglas Quartet – Internationally acclaimed bassist, composer, and member of the Ravi Coltrane Quartet; recently lauded by The New York Times and DownBeat as a leading force in modern jazz, including being voted the No. 1 Rising Star Bassist in DownBeat in 2019.
Konjur Collective – Rising Baltimore-based ensemble pushing the boundaries of Black American music with immersive performances and socially driven compositions.
Sequoia “REDWOOD” Snyder – Emerging pianist, composer, and vocalist hailed as a rising star of DC’s next jazz generation.
Farafina Kan – DC-born percussionist and composer Kweku Sumbry leads this electrifying West African percussion ensemble dedicated to preserving and presenting traditional rhythms and dances of the African diaspora. A master drummer and rising innovator, Sumbry blends ancestral knowledge with modern expression, creating performances that are both spiritual and explosive.
